St. Patrick's Day: Games and Activity Ideas

Here are some of our favorite game and activity ideas to enhance your St. Patrick's Day party!

Hosting a party is already a feat in itself! What is better than getting together with friends and family to share in the love of life? In our St. Patrick's Day blog, we suggested some deco ideas and some ideas on themed food and drinks. Here we are offering some game ideas. Didn't we tell you the fun was never ending?!

Games and Activities

  1. Hunt for Gold. It's Saint Patrick's day and the day isn't complete until there is a hunt of some kind! This treasure hunt can be simple. Purchase gold wrapped chocolate coins, and hide the coins everywhere. Each participant can keep the coins they found, or each can dump their gold in a large pot to be divvied up at the end. If you can't find gold coins, hide other gold wrapped candies. Suggestions: Rolos, or Peanut Butter Cups.

  2. Share the Rainbow. Give each person a small container of colorful candy pieces. (Suggestions could be M&M's, Skittles or Mike & Ikes.)Write questions on strips of paper and place in cups that represent the color of candy pieces. Have each person take turns picking a piece of candy, then selecting a corresponding color strip with question. The person has to answer the question that is drawn. If they choose not to answer, have them do something silly like a leprechaun dance.

  3. Scavenger Hunt. Write out clues on shamrocks to get your guests to the next shamrock AND to the next clue. It is best to know where you want your hunt to end. You want to make sure that the other clues aren't seen as they are searching for clues. This one does take time, but is always worth the effort! We have done scavenger hunts in the house, in the yard, in the neighborhood and through the city! For the sake of simplicity, you can focus on the home and places that are familiar. Remember, you give the first clue to hunters and they try to solve. Make sure everyone takes turns reading the clues they find. At the end of the hunt for St. Patrick's day, the prize can be a pot filled with goodies of candy, little toys, neon necklaces, hats to wear, etc... You can even have the pot filled with individual party bags for each guest, labeled with their name. For adults, mini bottled drinks, shot glass necklaces, or scratch off lottery tickets are possibilities. The end of the hunt should have a "wow" factor! Which can lead to our next activity...

  4. Photo Booth Display. At parties we sometimes forget to take pictures! A photo area makes sure that we remember! An area with a shiny backdrop with lots of shamrocks, balloons or pots of gold inspires trying on the props of glittery sunglasses, green fuzzy sideburns or tall green leprechaun hats with laughter and enjoyment. What game and activity ideas are you going to try out for your St. Patty's Day party?
