Throwing a party doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With a little creativity and smart planning, you can host a beautiful, memorable event without breaking the bank. Here are our favorite strategies to keep things fabulous and budget-friendly.
1. Pick a Flexible Theme
When picking a theme, choose something that allows for easy DIY and reusable decor. Think picnic or color-themed (like pastels or bright colors). These allow for more creativity with things you may already have at home.

2. Use What You Already Have
Before buying anything new, shop your home!
Use string lights - white Christmas lights are super universal.
Mason jars or wine bottles can easily be decorated or painted to fit your theme.
Throw blankets are a great touch to the decor.
Candles make a great mood lighting item.
Don't be afraid to ask neighbors or family members to borrow things like folding chairs, extra platters, or glassware

3. DIY Decor
Time to put on your creativity hats! There are so many things you can make on your own rather than purchase
Make tissue paper flowers, fans, or garlands.
Create printable banners and signage with Canva and print them out yourself.
Use natural elements from your own yard like pinecones, stones, flowers, or branches.
4. Focus on One “Wow” Moment
Instead of decorating every corner of your party space, you can create one stunning focal point like a balloon arch, a dessert table, or a photo booth area. It gives the party a high-end feel without high-end cost.

5. Simplify the Menu
Ask everyone to pitch in and bring a dish to share instead of providing everything yourself
You can also do a BYOB
Try a simplified themed grazing board
Make it brunch instead of dinner to save on food costs
6.Shop the Dollar Stores
You would be surprised at some of the cute things you can find at the dollar stores. Don't be afraid to at least check them out for some things like tablecloths or themed napkins.
7. Budget
Budgeting out your party expenses is always helpful to give yourself clear expectations. You may need to spend more in other areas for different types of parties. For example, you may want to spend more on food and drink for an adult party, but you may want to budget more for activities at a kids' party.
If you're having someone help you plan (like us at the Cherry on Top!) make sure you share your budget expectations and see what your planners can do within a budget you'd like to spend!
With these simple strategies, your next party will be a hit — and your guests will never guess you pulled it off on a budget!
